Because the pictures begin concealed, an unmatched reveal still provides a location to remember for a later turn. Pairing all of the kittens depends on combining those remembered positions with the remaining time.

A new pattern resets the positions that must be learned for that board rather than carrying the prior arrangement forward. The kitten pictures distinguish one pair from another, while the clock limits how long those revealed locations remain useful during the current level.
