About Chess Free - Échecs

At the opening, each side controls eight pawns plus a king and queen, with pairs of rooks, bishops, and knights completing the 16-piece set. Victory is defined by checkmate, when the rival king faces capture without an available escape. When you select a piece, available destination tiles appear in blue or green, allowing you to choose the next square before completing the move.

Objective: Checkmate the opposing king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture.

Core loop

  • Select one of your chess pieces, review the blue or green destination tiles, and choose a highlighted move.

How to move a piece

  1. Click the chess piece you want to move.
  2. Review the possible destination tiles shown in blue or green.
  3. Click one of the highlighted tiles to make the move.
